William A. Prothero, Ph.D.
William A. Prothero, Ph.D. is a professor emeritus, University of California, Santa Barbara. He was trained as a physicist and his major research has been in seismology, seismic instrumentation, and more recently in education. His laboratory was a large introductory oceanography course, where he designed and implemented new pedagogy and support software for inquiry activities modeled after those of practicing scientists during the course of their research. He and his collaborators have published numerous research papers about this work. In addition, he has served on NSF (National Science Foundation) Panels, the DLESE advisory board, and other NSF advisory committees.
